Celebrating Resourceful Homeowners in Our Community

Recognizing Dedication Through the Resourceful Homeowner Celebration

We recently attended the Resourceful Homeowner Celebration hosted by Home Repair Services of Kent County. This annual event recognizes homeowners who have shown dedication to improving their homes and investing in their future.

This year, Casey and Jena Skar were named the 2026 Resourceful Homeowners of the Year. Their story reflects the purpose of this celebration. Their hard work, persistence, and commitment to building something better.

Honoring the 2026 Resourceful Homeowners

Casey and Jena Skar earned this recognition through their participation in hands-on home repair programs. They committed their time and energy to completing important home improvements.

They participated in the Remodel Together program, where homeowners work alongside skilled professionals from HRS to complete needed repairs. Along the way, they gain hands-on experience and build confidence, giving them the tools to take an active role in maintaining their homes.

What Home Repair Services Does

Home Repair Services of Kent County is a nonprofit organization serving the Grand Rapids community since 1979. Its mission focuses on helping homeowners maintain safe and stable housing.

The organization offers a range of programs, including:

  • Home repair services
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Financial education
  • Hands-on workshops like Fix-It School

These programs give homeowners the tools and knowledge they need to care for their homes. Strong homeowners help create stronger neighborhoods.

Why This Celebration Matters

The Resourceful Homeowner Celebration is a chance to recognize the progress homeowners have made and the effort behind it. It brings together community partners and participants to celebrate what’s been accomplished and what’s possible with the right support.

It really shows what’s possible with the right resources. These projects are just the beginning of something more long-term.

We’re proud to support efforts like this through Intandem Credit Union, where homeowners aren’t just working on projects but building something that lasts.

We appreciate the opportunity to attend and be part of this event. Congratulations again to Casey and Jena Skar on this well-deserved recognition.
